So, you got a new DSLR this past Christmas? Excited to start taking great photographs? Read up on my Photo tip and you might pick up some good information.

Composition Photo tip:

When framing a shot, consider putting your subject not to be right smack in the middle. Why? Because in photography, there is something called “The rule of thirds.”
It basically says that imagine there is an imaginary grid that is diving your frame in to 9 equal parts, three lines vertical, and three horizontal. Like this:

On some cameras, it is a feature that you can enable in the settings. Like on my Canon 60D.

Once you are aware of the grid concept. Try to position your subject on the meeting/intersection points of those lines and it doesn’t have to be exactly on the cross points (I encircled the cross point in red on this sample image.)
Like this:

It is said that by doing that, it will create a more pleasing image because the human most likely tends to travel to those points first when looking at an image.

There you go, hopefully this small tip will help improve your composition and your photography. If you have any suggestions for my photo tip section, feel free to email me [email protected]. Until next Photo tip, Good luck! Ciao!
